Dates Halwa

An amazingly rich and festive-special halwa, this one is specially made during the festival of ramadaan and served during Iftar meals. This halwa is specially for those who are health conscious and avoid refined sugar. Typically, this halwa is made with pitted dates but it can also be made by using other dry fruits like cashew, almonds and pista. This halwa can be served like a fudge or rolled into a ladoo too. All you need to do is roll them in dessicated coconut and other nuts after preparation. Try this halwa and gorge on it guilt-free.

What You Will Need

  • Dates-- 250 gms
  • Milk--2/3rd cup (125 ml)
  • Sugar (Optional) 1.5 to 2 Tablespoons
  • Cardamom powder-- 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Cashew pieces-- 2 Tablespoon

How To make It:

1. First, boil 125 ml of milk. Add sugar (if required). Keep aside.
2. Deseed dates and roughly chop and soak them in milk. Keep it covered for around 30 minutes.
3. Drain the milk after 30 minutes. Keep it aside.
4. Blend the dates to make a smooth paste with milk using a blender.
4. Next, in a pan, heat a tablespoon of ghee. Fry the cashew pieces till golden brown and leave it aside.
5. In the same pan, add the blended paste and continue cooking for 8-10 minutes.
6. The colour begins to change in sometime. Now add ghee, and mix well. Continue stirring till ghee gets well blended with the dates.
7. Continue to cook for around 5-8 minutes until done.
8. Turn off the heat. Add ½ tablespoon of the fried cashews and a pinch of cardamom powder. Mix thoroughly.
9. Serve hot, warm or cold.
